Shot Scope

Project outline

Overview

Round editing at the end of a round of golf helps the user tidy up the slight GPS inaccuracies and remove any extra shots the watch miss-detected. The user can “sign-off” the round which allows the product to be used in official competitions.

My Role

Lead the design and discovery of this new feature. Communicate my process back to senior management before progressing with engineers.

I’ve tried to replicate how golfers keep score and sign off their round normally on course. We wanted to keep users off their devices during their round as this could slow down their game. When a user reaches the end of their game and complete it through the watch UI. The app would then prompt them to “sign off” their round. This would show them a map of the course along side the number of shots we detected they took. Context for users is key here. The assumption being that the user being able to see the map of the course they played on will help them correct any inaccuracies or notice any extra shots on their scorecard.

If they notice inaccuraces they could edit every shot they’ve taken that day. The experience needed to be map focused with the primary functions at either the top or bottom edges. Selecting and editing shots was relatively easy. Once complete the user could save the shot, hole and then the round.
